Announcing the Winners of the 6th Annual Deep River Books Writer’s Contest! Many wonderful manuscripts were submitted. After three rounds of judging, several top finalists emerged. The final decision was extremely difficult. These winners are all well deserving. Congratulations to all entrants for the fantastic quality of manuscripts you submitted this year. Grand Prize Winner Catherine Finger – Shattered Masks (fiction) A police chief’s faith is tested when her husband and his mistress are found brutally murdered, and she becomes the prime suspect. She’s thrown into a race against time and a vicious serial killer, bent on detroying her and everything she holds dear. Second Place Sarah Sumner – Angry Like Jesus (non-fiction) A unique perspective on the anger of Jesus, based on the author’s doctoral research, but presented in an approachable format. Third Place – Tie Karen Rees – The Laughing Place (fiction) Bluefield, Conn., 1868. Alone in the world after her doctor-father dies, Nathalie Rutledge receives an invitation from her hitherto unknown Great Aunt Elizabeth to visit the ancestral home in Bristol, England. Nathalie accepts the invitation. Her presence in Bristol and the accidental unearthing of a long-buried family secret ultimately results in a crisis that brings out either the worst or the best in each family member. Randal Pilz – A Battle More Desperate (fiction) Through the snow and suffering of the battle, Joe’s burning desire is to win the “more desperate battle,” the one for the souls of his squad members. Joe proves himself in and out of combat and gains the friendship and trust of his other squad members, including a particular hard case G.I., giving Joe an open door for the gospel.
